Margaret Francis Nevels, 91, of Odessa, Missouri died on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at her home.

Born Monday, October 6, 1924 in Higginsville, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late George Edward Matthews and the late Elsie Mae (Bayless) Matthews.

She married Thurman Coolidge Nevels in Kansas City, Missouri on March 23, 1946; he preceded her in death on February 19, 1980. Also preceded in death was one son, Lee Nevels; 3 brothers, Clarence, Eugene and Cleo Matthews; one infant brother, George Edward Matthews; and 2 sisters, Mary Esther Schmutz and Alice Anderson.

During the 1940s Mrs. Nevels made radars for WWII at the Kenwood Manufacturing Company, she also worked at the Husker House in Higginsville until the fire that destroyed it in the 1980s. She then was employed by Bucks in the deli department and retired in the late 1990s.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are 2 sons, William (Roberta) Nevels of Sapulpa, OK and Curtiss (Lynette) Nevels of Higginsville, MO, 4 daughters, Gloria (Robert) Heifner of Kansas City, MO, Kathy (Charles) Hurt of Brightwood, VA, Iris (Robert) Schwartze of Odessa, MO and Evelyn (Terry) Wade of Odessa, MO, one brother, Lloyd (Ella Mae) Matthews of Warrensburg, MO; 18 grand children; 34 great grand children.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Odessa, Missouri with Pastor Terry Hodges officiating. Interment will be in Lexington Memory Gardens, Lexington, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville, Missouri.

Pallbearers are Derek Nevels, Andrew Nevels, Jake Wade, Christopher Heifner, Jeremy Nevels, Adam Schwartze, Shawn Nevels, and Ben Nevels.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the First Baptist Church of Odessa Building Fund or to The National Eye Institute.
