Dorothy A. Hoefer, 83, of Higginsville, Missouri died on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at her home.

Born Thursday, June 29, 1933 in Aullville, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Gustav Gerkin and the late Mary Rutherford Gerkin. Also preceded in death is one sister, Betty Cagna, and one grandson, Robert Hoefer.

"Tootie" lived most of her life in Higginsville; she was a homemaker and attended Grace United Methodist Church. She was a very active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and her chapter was instrumental in the organization and restoration efforts at the Confederate Chapel in Higginsville. She was also an avid Bridge player and a member of the Red Hatters club.

Surviving are 2 sons, Sevier Hoefer and Alfred Hoefer of Higginsville, MO; one daughter, Cozette Hoefer of Higginsville, MO; one brother, William E. (Evelyn) Gerkin of Tigard, OR; 3 grandchildren, Sarah Mattson, Nic Hoefer, Colby (Christi) Hoefer; and 4 great grandchildren, Blake and Lilly Mattson and Lucas and Lena Hoefer; along with a number of cousins.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church, Higginsville, with the Rev. Mary Biesemeyer officiating and Sharon Pragman serving as organist. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church, beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in the City Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.

Pallbearers will be Earl Denyer, Colby Hoefer, Marc Hoefer, Chris Cagna, Nic Hoefer and Blake Mattson. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Hoefer, Tommy Russell and Mitch Hoefer..

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Confederate Chapel, Higginsville, MO.
